When I was younger I was fond of not having a monthly travel pass and thanks to this happy matter I accumulated a good bunch of individual travel passes for the subway and the bus. I thought it was a pity to throw them away at the moment and decided to keep them for a future crafty activity. The moment arrived when, having many books to read at the same time, I didn’t have enough bookmarks and the few I had where tremendously ugly. It is not that I despise ugly bookmarks, but hey, if I can make my very own ugly bookmarks, I prefer my own ugliness creation.
Cuando era más joven, era aficionada a no tener un abono de transporte mensual y, gracias a este feliz asunto acumulé un buen montón de billetes individuales de metro y autobús. En el momento pensé que era una pena tirarlos y decidí guardarlos para alguna futura manualidad. El momento llegó cuando, teniendo varios libros que leer al mismo tiempo, no tenía marca-páginas suficientes y los poco que tenía eran tremendamente feos. No es que desprecie marca-páginas feos, pero oye, si puedo hacer mis propios feos marca-páginas, prefiero mi propia creación de fealdad.
So there I was. With my travel passes, some paper, pencils, watercolours, colour pens, scissors and big transparent cello tape. And here are the steps to create your very own bookmarks, ugly or not, whatever you want. You can also use something else instead if you don’t have travel passes: a cereal box, old business cards, anything that is made out of thin cardboard to give the bookmark some consistency.
Así que ahí estaba yo. Con mis billetes de transporte, algo de papel, lapiceros, acuarelas, rotuladores, tijeras y una gran cinta de celo transparente. Y aquí están los pasos para que creéis vuestros propios marca-páginas, feos o no, lo que queráis. También podéis usar otra cosa en su lugar si no tenéis billetes de transporte: una caja de cereales, tarjetas de visita viejas, cualquier cosa hecha de cartulina para darle al marca-páginas algo de consistencia.
1. First thing is to grab one of those travel passes and cut a piece of paper doubling in size (to cover both sides).
Lo primero es pillar uno de esos billetes y cortar un trozo de papel que le doble el tamaño (para cubrir los dos lados).
I would suggest you to do few in one go if you are thinking of doing more than one or two, it will save you loads of time.
Te sugiero que hagas unos cuantos de una tirada si estás pensando en hacer más de uno o dos, te ahorrará un montón de tiempo.
2. Draw something. I drew and stamped with few stamps I made (Check it out here). You can also print instead if all this is not your thing.
Dibuja algo. Yo dibujé y estampé con unos sellos que hice (Echa un vistazo aquí). O en lugar de esto, también puedes imprimir si esto no es lo tuyo.
3. Fold the piece of paper and put one of the tickets inside.
Dobla el trozo de papel y pon uno de los billetes dentro.
4. Wrap it in one of those big cello tapes or with transparent book lining (they sell one that is very handy, with glue on one of the sides).
Envuélvelo en una de esas grandes cintas adhesivas o con forro de libros transparente (venden uno que es muy práctico, con pegamento en uno de los lados).

You can also make a hole and add a string to the bookmark.
También puedes hacer un agujero y añadir un cordel al marca-páginas.
